A Georgia-based tax and accounting software firm is closing its Caribou office and relocating the facility's 70 employees.
CCH Small Firm Services is consolidating its operations at a new headquarters in Kennesaw, Ga., later this year, and plans to close its northern Maine office by 2012, according to the Bangor Daily News. The 70 employees will be transferred to the new office by July 2012, with some employees moving sooner, the company's president, Jeff Gramlich, told the paper. Employees will be offered relocation assistance, and those who do not want to move to Georgia will be eligible for severance. The company is also relocating 450 employees from other offices in Georgia and 72 from Florida.
In 2006, CCH bought Caribou tax software company ATX, and in 2007, the company laid off nearly 90 full-time and seasonal employees. The company's land and building on Sweden Street are assessed at more than $1.1 million, and last year the company paid nearly $45,000 in real estate and personal property taxes to the city, according to the paper.
