Portland seafood processor Bristol Seafood said the addition of Maine kelp industry leader Briana Warner will help the company support continued growth and innovation in its value-added products.

After recently stepping down as CEO of Atlantic Sea Farms, Briana Warner has joined Bristol Seafood as vice president of marketing and strategy.

Warner, who resigned last month as CEO of Saco-based Atlantic Sea Farms, will serve as vice president of marketing and strategy.

Bristol Seafood has been expanding its line of value-added products. Since developing the My Fish Dish line of products in 2019, the Portland company has continued to innovate with the launch of product lines called Seafood Singles, packaged for convenience; Cedar Plank, developed for the grill; and Grab & Go.

The products are sold in 3,800 stores throughout the U.S., said Iréne Moon, Bristol’s senior vice president of sales and marketing.

“I’m excited to have Briana, a true driver of innovation and sustainability, join the company to support our continued growth and innovation in this space,” Moon said.

In five years at Saco kelp processor Atlantic Sea Farms, Warner oversaw rapid growth and retail expansion.

During her tenure, Atlantic Sea Farms raised a total of $9.5 million and oversaw the company’s expansion from just two farmers producing 30,000 pounds of seaweed to 40 partner farmers harvesting more than 1.3 million pounds in 2024 — building the largest kelp aquaculture operation in North America and bringing award-winning products to over 4,000 locations.

“I am excited to join Bristol, to help amplify and grow their positive impact on our workforce, community, customers, suppliers and environment,” said Warner, who was a Mainebiz Next list honoree in 2020.

Bristol Seafood is a Certified B Corporation twice named to the "Top 25 Seafood Product Innovations" list and ranked on the Top 25 Seafood Sustainability & Conservation list. The company partners with retailers and distributors throughout North America.

In 2021, Bristol was in expansion mode when it acquired an additional facility to support continued growth of its retail lines, at 284 Commercial St., a stone’s throw from the company’s headquarters at 5 Portland Fish Pier.

The additional space brought more capacity and automation to the company’s retail business and freed up space in the original, 30,000-square-foot facility to support the expanding needs of Bristol's foodservice and contract manufacturing partners, Peter Handy, Bristol’s president and CEO and a 2022 Mainebiz 40 Under 40 honoree, told Mainebiz at the time.

“Bristol is a company that I have long admired for their commitment to sustainability and B Corp principles,” noted Warner.
