A 3,788-panel solar array under construction in Brewer is expected to provide all the energy needed at the Bangor, Brewer and Ellsworth locations of Darling’s Auto Group.
ReVision Energy, an employee-owned solar company based in Montville, is handling the project’s design and installation for the network of car dealerships, which is headquartered in Brewer.
The 1.4-megawatt array is located on approximately five acres at 29 Wiswell Road in Brewer. ReVision expects to complete the array this summer, and said the installation will allow Darling's to generate an estimated 1,705,000 kilowatt-hours, offsetting 1,670,900 pounds of carbon annually.
The array is the largest for a car dealership in Maine.
“The addition of the solar array is part of our continuing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint,” Kevin Tesseo, Darling’s vice president of operations, said in a news release.
Other initiatives include implementation of eco-friendly lighting sources across the dealerships and participation in zero-sort recycling programs.
“There are future plans as well that will help us move closer to our sustainability goals,” he said.
Darling's is a family-owned and -operated retailer of new and used vehicles in Maine, with locations in Bangor, Brewer, Ellsworth, Augusta and Brunswick.
ReVision Energy, a Certified B Corporation, is a 100% employee-owned solar company with offices in Montville and Portland; Brentwood and Enfield, N.H.; and North Andover, Mass. It has over 300 employee-owners and has performed 9,000 installations.
