"Greenlight Maine" is seeking applications for the fifth season of the popular television pitch contest for startup businesses and nonprofits.
Applications, due by May 15, should be made in the form of a video posted on YouTube, and applicants have to be available for taping one morning or afternoon between July 15 and July 23 in Bangor.
Organizers underscore that it's not the quality of the video that's important, but the quality of an entrant's business and pitch presentation.
Biddeford-based seaweed company Ocean's Balance won Season 4, beating Flowfold of Gorham and American Roots of Westbrook.
Once the Season 5 application period is closed, a panel of five judges will review all applications and determine which 26 should appear in the series. Season 5 will be taped at the New England School of Communications on the Bangor campus of Husson University.
Each show features two companies, pitching one at a time, before a three-judge panel. The pitches are limited to three minutes, followed by a short question-and-answer session. Though single-person pitches are preferred, two people can be accommodated.
"We realize that pitching in this time frame is very challenging, so each presenting company will get a minimum of five minutes off-camera after its pitch to answer additional questions from the judges and expand their presentation," the organizers note in an online announcement. "
After the initial pitch series, 13 finalists will be chosen to compete in an off-camera pitch competition in the fall before three judges, who will score them on scalability, feasibility, overall quality, innovation and ability to state in Maine.
Out of the semi-final round, three companies will be chosen to appear in the grand finale for the $100,000 cash prize. That pitch-off will be broadcast in late March or early April.
