Verrill, a Portland-based law firm, has hired Norman Belanger and Betts Gorsky as counsel at the firm’s Portland office.
Belanger is a full-service business lawyer joining the firm’s corporate and health care groups. He rejoined Verrill after leaving the firm in 1989 to open his firm, Van Meer & Belanger, in Portland and Biddeford.
He works with many businesses, from small family-owned to large multi-million-dollar enterprises; some clients include physicians, dentists and other health care providers. He also provides estate planning and probate services to his clients.
During the revision of the Maine Business Corporation Act, he served on the committee and was chair and primary revisor of the current Maine Professional Service Corporation Act.
He received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and his law degree from Harvard Law School.
Gorsky will be joining the private clients and fiduciary services group. She maintains an estate planning and probate practice. Before joining the firm, she worked at law firms in New York City and Maine.
Her business practice includes extensive experience with forming and governance of tax-exempt entities and advising on employee benefits and human resource issues. She also counsels professional corporations and other Maine enterprises with human resource and retirement plan compliances.
In these roles, she has represented clients for whom she prepared prototype retirement plans, including a prototype form, and employee welfare benefit plans.
She received her bachelor's degree from Stanford University and her law degree from New York University School of Law.

Verrill ranks No. 5 among Maine’s largest law firms, according to the 2023 Mainebiz Book of Lists. That ranking is based on number of Maine-based attorneys.
