The 2011 Business Leaders of the Year | Introducing Mainebiz's 2011 Business Leaders of the Year

Inspiration comes from many places: the worlds of nature, sports and great literature, to name a few.

Here at Mainebiz, we find inspiration in the board room, or more explicitly, in the board rooms of our three Business Leaders of the Year. Last winter, we called for nominations for our 2011 awards and nearly 100 of you responded with notable stories of Maine executives navigating their companies and organizations into better times, and taking Maine's economy right along with them.

We selected three who made us collectively raise our eyebrows and say, "Wow." They are: Fletcher Kittredge, CEO of GWI in Biddeford; Martin Grimnes, president of Harbor Technologies in Brunswick; and Andy Shepard, president and CEO of Maine Winter Sports Center in Caribou.

Each is a remarkable leader: Fletcher for drumming up money and support for the Three Ring Binder project that promises to deliver high-speed Internet service to Maine's underserved areas while simultaneously leading his company to record sales; Martin for bringing a composite technology with the potential to revolutionize infrastructure projects to national and international markets; and Andy, for 10 years ago seeing the economic potential in siting a winter sports center in northern Maine as the epicenter of Biathlon World Cup competitions and other snow-related events.

We expect you'll find them as inspiring as we do.
