BIW awarded $87M for U.S. Navy work

Maine's two U.S. senators announced that BIW has been awarded an $87 million contract by the U.S. Navy to continue "integrated planning yard services" for two ship classes built at the Bath shipyard.
Bath Iron Works has been awarded an $87 million contract by the U.S. Navy to continue “integrated planning yard services” for Arleigh Burke-class and Oliver Hazard Perry-class ships, according to a joint announcement by Maine’s U.S. senators.
“This announcement is welcome news for the hardworking men and women at Bath Iron Works,” said U.S. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Angus King, I-Maine. “This funding demonstrates the Navy’s continued commitment to BIW and its confidence in the shipyard’s highly skilled employees, who are vital to Maine’s economy and to our nation’s security.”
The exact amount awarded, for costs plus fees, was $87,218,473. The contract covers integrated planning and support for Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and Oliver Hazard Perry-class of frigates built at BIW, for tasks including design, planning and modernization.
Collins is a member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and King is a member of the Armed Services Committee.
