DECD, DOL commissioners sworn in

Gov. Paul LePage on Friday swore in new commissioners of the Department of Economic and Community Development and the Department of Labor.

George Gervais, who was serving as acting DECD commissioner since April, was sworn in as permanent DECD head following unanimous Senate confirmation, according to a press release from the governor's office. Gervais was previously assistant commissioner of the department, and also worked as a development program manager and business development specialist. He replaces Philip Congdon, who resigned in April following allegations of offensive remarks on rural Maine and affirmative action.

Also Friday, LePage swore in Lt. General Robert Winglass as commissioner of the Department of Labor following a Senate confirmation vote of 32-1, according to a press release. Winglass retired from the Marine Corps in 1992 and was elected to the Maine House of Representatives. Winglass takes over for John Dorrer, who has been acting DOL commissioner since former Commissioner Laura Fortman resigned in January.
