Falmouth marketing firm owner Stephen Woods is now one of the owners of the NBA Development League's Maine Red Claws basketball team in Portland.
Woods owns TideSmart Global, parent company of six companies including Sumarian Sports & Entertainment, according to a press release. Woods joins a 15-member ownership group that includes majority owner William Ryan Jr., owner of the Oxford Plains Speedway; former TD Bank executive William Ryan Sr.; Michael Dubyak, CEO of Wright Express Corp.; Stephen Goodrich, founder and CEO of PowerPay; and Jon Jennings, president and general manager of the team. Woods, most known for his experiential marketing company emg3, recently established an eight-acre eco-friendly campus for his businesses in Falmouth.
In addition, Woods is also an investor and partner in The Forefront at Thompson's Point project, a convention and event center proposed in April by Ryan Jr. and Jennings. The $105 million center would include office space, a hotel, a performance hall and an arena for sporting events, including Red Claws games. If the Portland Planning Board approves the development's site plan, and the group obtains necessary permits, construction could begin in the spring, according to the Portland Press Herald.
