Norway Savings Bank made 27 surprise "Helping Hands" donations to nonprofit organizations providing services ranging from nutrition support to job training in five counties.
The beneficiaries include Ruth's Reusable Resources in Portland and Tree Street Youth in Lewiston. (See full list below).
“This year, we know that members of our communities are struggling with the high costs of everyday items like food, heating oil and other essentials,” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “These Helping Hands gifts are our way of providing some assistance to nonprofits focusing on addressing those immediate needs.”
Over the course of 2022, Norway Savings awarded nearly $1.1 million to 358 nonprofits statewide. The donations consist of $750,000 granted this year plus $339,916 to be distributed in the form of multi-year grants.
Norway Savings Bank, whose roots go back to 1866, is a mutual banking and financial services company with close to $1.74 billion in total assets as of Sept. 30, 2022.
Among' the largest banks based in Maine, Norway Savings is ranked No. 7 in the 2023 Mainebiz Book of Lists based on assets as of June 30, 2022.
The institution has 24 branch locations and operates divisions in trust and investment services, personal banking and business banking.
